📜 How We Meet

The Weekly Call, Start to Finish

Same shape every week, so nobody has to wonder what's coming next. Six segments, locked to one hour, one facilitator running the clock. This page is the run sheet — what happens, in order, and why each piece is there.

⏰ Every Sunday, 13:30 UK (London) time.

One hour, six segments, one steady pace — "Done & Lacking" is deliberately the biggest block on the clock.

    👋 Open & Introductions

Say your name, then land the message

Whoever's hosting opens the call, and everyone goes around with a quick round — name, and one line on how the week went. No pitching, no résumé, just a name and a mood.

Then the host grounds the room in the message we keep coming back to: the rapid rise of AI keeps raising the bar on what "skilled" means, and there's a lot in that shift none of us get a vote on — the pace of the field, what ships next, how fast the world rearranges itself around it. What we do control is how we show up for our own learning. So that's where the energy goes: loving the difference, and staying positive about it.

    📏 Meeting Rules

    The four ground rules

Read quickly, every week, so nobody has to guess the norms:

    • One thread at a time. Let whoever's sharing finish before jumping in.
    • Bring the broken thing, not the polished thing. Our rule from week one — it still holds.
    • No dunking. If someone's stuck, the room's job is to help, not to score a point.
    • Camera or voice, your call — but be present. Not multitasking through someone else's turn.

    📰 We Read the News

    One person, a few headlines

A rotating volunteer, signed up the week before, reads two or three things they noticed in the field that week — a new tool, a shift in how people are working, a debate worth having. The room reacts and adds its own for a couple of minutes before we move on. Keep it tight — this is the door into the discussion, not the discussion itself.

    ~40 min
    🙌 Done & Lacking

Both halves, in the same breath

Everyone gets a short turn to say two things: what they actually did this week, and what they're lacking, stuck on, or missing right now — a skill, a tool, a piece of context. Both halves matter; a share that's all wins reads as a highlight reel, and this isn't that.

The room only listens during this round. Troubleshooting happens after — one-on-one, or in the chat.

    🏅 Medallions for Repo Owners

    Recognizing what shipped in public

Anyone who pushed to a public GitHub repo this week gets called out by name — the repo, what it does, one line on why it's worth a look. That's the "medallion": no trophy, just the room's attention on work that's actually out there for someone else to read, fork, or borrow from.

    🙏 Closing

One line each, then the prayer

We close by going around once more — one line each on what you're taking with you. Then we read the Serenity Prayer together to close the call.

Closing Reading
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

🧭 Running the call

Notes for whoever's hosting.
  1. ⏱️ Locked to one hour. "Done & Lacking" is the biggest block on purpose (~40 min) — if it's running long, trim the news segment first, not the round itself.
  2. 🔁 Rotate the volunteer roles. Host, news reader, and medallion caller — someone new signs up each week for each, so it's never the same voice twice in a row.
  3. 🙋 Keep the round moving. With ~40 minutes for "Done & Lacking," aim for two to three minutes per person so everyone gets a turn.
  4. ⏰ Sunday, 13:30 UK time, every week. Same slot, no rescheduling surprises.
  5. 📓 Recap goes out after. The week's page — this week's entry — gets published once the call wraps, not during it.
